Climbing gym coming to Northside
An entrepreneur is opening a climbing gym with rope climbing and bouldering in Cincinnati's urban core.
Joe Anderson hopes to open Climb Cincy at 1700 Blue Rock St. by spring of 2018. It will be the first dedicated climbing gym in Cincinnati's urban core.
"Northside has a lot of great things going for it. There's a strong local central business district and it's relatively close to downtown without the overcrowding of downtown," Anderson told me. "It feels like a community of people doing the hard local work to make it great, and I want to be a part of that." (...)
There are two former warehouse buildings on the Climb Cincy site, one of which will house the gym. Anderson said he'll preserve the more architecturally interesting building and keep as much of it intact as possible. The architect on the project is Mark Gunther of Wickman/Gunther, who also designed Rhinegeist's brewery.
Blake Bartley of Urban Fast Forward brokered the deal to locate Climb Cincy in Northside.
"Northside is one of several Cincinnati neighborhoods that are really booming right now, but Joe is bringing something completely different that the rest of the city currently can't offer," he said. "It's an excellent fit with Northsiders, but it's also an asset that's going to be a regional draw all days of the week and that will benefit the entire Northside business community."
